This policy/procedure establishes uniform vehicle standards and equipment for pumper fire apparatus unless otherwise specified within this policy.
What is the unit about?
This unit is about driving a fire and rescue vehicle safely to and from an incident--for example, a fire--following the most effective route. The unit also covers siting the vehicle safely and securely at incidents and then taking the vehicle to its next required position.
Who is the unit for?
The unit is recommended for fire-fighters and control room staff.
Drill for the month:
All members shall participate in a company school (drill) of safe driving procedures using the information provided below as a guide.

This policy states the requirements for actions to be taken by all personnel operating emergency vehicles in response mode when approaching intersections.

FF9.1 Drive Vehicles to Incidents
This element concerns your ability to ensure that your vehicle is ready for use. You will also plan the optimum route to events, take account of factors which influence progress to the event, and take action to deal with contingencies. You will ensure that your vehicle arrives safely and undamaged at the event in optimum response time.
FF9.2 Maneuvre, Site and Re-Deploy Vehicles
This element concerns your ability to site your vehicle in a safe and secure location at events. You will carry out your duties at the event and return your vehicle safely to its next appointed location.
